A room full of giggling girls, a table full of intriguing items, and cheese dip in the shape of a penis. Does this sound like a recent party you’ve been to? Probably not, because this is the scene of a “passion party”. Throughout the years, women have been known for getting a kick out of throwing a Tupperware , Mary Kay, or even a jewelry party. Times have changed. The latest trend is to invite a large group of friends, horny or not, to a in-home sex toy party. Sex toy parties, also known as “passion parties”, are much more intimate than your local smut shop around the corner.
This weekend I decided to experiment with one of these so called “pleasure-parties” and invited a bunch of girls and their friends to see what the hype is all about. The hardest part is deciding what company to do it through because there are so many! I honestly picked Passion Parties because it was the first one that came up on a google search. What I was about to experience was a lot different than I had expected to! What happens is a consultant comes to your house and brings all of her “items” in a suitcase, displays them all out on a table, and gives about a two-hour presentation, and no, not a personal demonstration. She started off with various bath products, lotions and other womanly things. Then, she moved onto such things as lubricants and cock rings, including “pineapple pleasure sleeve”. Moments later, she handed out two different catalogs- one was mild and one was for the type that like to get wild. When you are all set to order, you go into a separate room so that you don’t feel uncomfortable or embarrassed.
“These types of parties are very popular among college aged girls, but I’d have to say the most popular age group is late 20s- early 30s,” said the Passion Parties consultant.
These parties are not only for females, they can also be intended men as well. “I do a lot of parties for couples, but I don’t think that I’d ever do an all-men party, it would be pretty awkward,” she said.
At one point the consultant showed us something called ‘Gigi’ and demonstrated it. Let’s just say that it’s like a stretchy sleeve for men; very interesting.
In case you didn’t already know, sex toys are created with very interesting names these days. Many are named after friendly animals such as the “lilac elephant”, “twin rabbit”, “friendly dolphin” and even the “escalating elephant”. The biggest hit of the night was the chocolate thriller, a very girthy vibrator and the name is self-explanatory.
Whether you’re going to one or hosting one it’s important to be prepared mentally for such a party. Remember that when you're inviting people some may feel uncomfortable about going to a “pleasure party”, but it’s important that you be willing to try new things and be adventurous.
