Ask E. Jean - Tormented? Driven Witless? Whipsawed by confusion?

Advice Vixens

I am the maid of honor in my best friends wedding and I'm trying to plan her shower... just have a quick etiquette question...

Due to budgeting, she really cut down on her guest list and is only inviting close family and friends. For the shower, would it be rude of me to invite people who aren't invited to the wedding? There are people that I know she would enjoy celebrating with and would like to be there for her, but I don't know if its okay to invite them if they aren't invited to the wedding.

Classic rules of etiquette state that all shower guests must be people who have been invited to the wedding.

To me, inviting people to the shower but not the wedding is like inviting them to buy a movie ticket but making them leave after the coming attractions.
