Dealing with anxiety: I am just coming out of a break up and I'm finding I'm having this overwhelming anxious feeling in my chest and I can't get rid of it. Any natural remedies for getting rid of anxiety?

The only time I get it is when I drink coffee, or if I drank too much the night before, so I don't want/need any meds for it, but just a suggestion on how to get myself out of this funk. I just want the chest pain to go away.

    Hi Sam!

LOTS of people experience anxiety when they drink too much coffee or, too much alcohol the night before. Our nervous system freaks out.

A natural remedy I have used is something called "Natural Calm". It is a Magnesium Citrate powder that you add to hot water and sip. It works to naturally calm your nervous system. Also, it is a known fact that alcohol depletes the body of magnesium.

I have a container of this stuff here with me right now and used it just yesterday. It works instantly and I haven't experienced anxiety in at least 4 weeks now.

The container cost Me $30.00 and can be found in most health food stores or online.

The exact name is Peter Gillham's Natural Calm.

I highly recommend it for anxiety and panic attacks, especially due to hangovers.

    Cheers!

If your are talking about that tightness that comes when you are anxious, then I would make sure I was breathing properly first. Anxiety tends to make us take more shallow breaths, partly because we are hunched over which is what we do when we are feeling bad emotionally.

So, sit up straighter and take more normal breaths. Then sometimes I tap my breastbone three times if I am feeling sort of this way. I read somewhere that it re-sets that chakra but I think it may actually have something to do with tapping a nerve cluster and breaking the pattern that causes the feeling.

Physical activity is good, partly because it helps get rid of feelings of stress and I think it regularizes your breathing.

You could look into homeopathic remedies. i find them helpful although some don't and if you are having stomach issues, acid reflux, heartburn symptoms, do take something for that to at least minimize that feeling.

I am sorry you are feeling bad. :(

How interesting! A lack of magnesium is also considered by many to be the cause of headaches/migraines! And a good dose will cure just about any hangover.

I know this will seem so obvious it will sound bitchy--I don't mean it to--but don't drink coffee or drink too much alcohol. This seems like it's based on things you shouldn't be taking rather than things you should be taking.

Guided meditation might be something beneficial. You can find a plethora of youtube cuts that include serene photography and music. Also, if you search "counted breathing exercises" you will find a lot of sources that will help with this. Just realize, situational anxiety is normal... and neurobiologists will say, most likely not preventable. But once you start to notice the symptoms, there are many things you can do to shorten the length of the attack and lessen the symptoms. Yoga, tai chi practice, meditation, and changes in diet (after consulting your doctor) can help, as well.
