    Waitwaitwait. Better news:

Tear Jerker Story (at least for me it's a tear jerker): An old friend from hs got me into running last July. She was our *star* athlete. We hardly knew e/o until we had driver's ed together and she has many, many fond memories of me from that trying time (I failed driver's ed b/c my parents refused to let me practice outside of school). She is SUCH a nice person. Anyway ... I just got to email her and tell her that I ran Chuy's 5K to the tune of a 13:30 mile! Now it's my goal to do that in a half (either in Detroit or San Antonio)! Annnnd ... we're going to be in the same place near Christmastime :o) Big happy smile!

You never ever know how little things can make a big difference, cuz she sure has made a difference in my life!

That's awesome, Maggie! Man...I need to get back tot he gym:)

I completed my first ever grant proposal as the new Director of Development of the Oak Park Festival Theatre--and I did it all by myself. The Managing Director was supposed to be co-authoring it with me because I JUST stepped into this position and don't know all of the stuff she knows about the theatre. But she's been having a very traumatic week with her cat (which sounds really lame, but he needed two emergency surgery's this week and was ultimately put down--and it was unexpected. He was a young cat), so it was left to me. It was incredibly stressful and time consuming and SO MUCH DAMN FUN. I'm not quite sure how to pinpoint it, but this kind of work seems to speak directly to the kinds of things I'm good at: writing, problem solving, making passionate arguments advocating for...whatever I'm into at the moment:)

That being said...I don't know if we'll actually GET the grant, because while I do feel like I may have an aptitude for this kind of stuff, the truth is I have no earthly idea what I'm doing. But I got through the first one, anyway. So yay!

Edit: And I know I've mentioned it before, but in case it was missed, this is a volunteer position. And I'm mostly just feeling optimistic that it's something I might be able to actually do for money one day. Please, please, please let us get this grant! I want to be able to say, "I raised a shit ton of money for this theatre. PAY ME!"

Oh shit, I have other things to brag about:)

I'm going to be singing at the House of Blues on June 8th! It's just back up, but a girl who is a friend of a friend can't do the gig and needed someone to fill in with this cool band The Dirty Rooks so I'm stepping in. And then I'm doing one more gig with them the next night that actually pays. A whopping $25:) But that's more than I made in the two years I sang back up with Chameleon World.

Also, I'm playing my banjo this morning, and, while you can make no mistake about it, I'm not "good" yet, I realized I've made a shit ton of progress. I've been playing for three months now, and I feel like I know how a banjo works at least:) I'm hopeful about my future with this instrument.

And I'm enjoying the time I spend with the boy:)

    Okay, enough bragging from me!

Kay. But playing in The House of Blues is cool no matter what. Brag away!

And congrats on playing the banjo! My sis and I have a theory that consistently learning new things keeps a person humble :o)

Let me know how your grant works out! That's super-exciting!
